The Carolinas Renaissance Festival, an annual celebration of ancient European customs and arts (mixed with no small amount of fantasy fiction) takes place not far from where we live. We visited it during the Falls of 2018 and 2019.
As you walk into the fairgrounds, you'll see that it is lined with shops selling hand-crafted items, be they candles, swords, mail armor or glass bottles.
The biggest attraction is probably the reenactment of medieval combat such as jousting and sword fighting. The heroes are available for photos and signatures afterwards
It's a joyous celebration and an escape from the everyday, with folks immersing in their roles in dress and and in spirit.
